Lucinda Williams: Little Honey

Lucinda Williams
Little Honey
Lost Highway Records [2008]

Fire Drills Review:

Lucinda Williams is great artist, which I have always been at awe on how she can make you feel emotion simply by the emphasis of her vocals. This is what made Car Wheels On A Gravel Road [1998] so great. Ever since that record, Williams output has greatly increased but trying to capture that magic again is a bit tougher. Little Honey has the makings of a great record with some backing vocals from Matthew Sweet and Susanna Hoffs, a duet with Elvis Costello on "Jailhouse Tears" and an obscure AC/DC cover with "It's A Long Way To The Top" but overall it feels like Williams is looking too hard for material to sing. Little Honey is still an enjoyable listen and fans should approve but to get back to album like some of her best work Williams needs to rediscover what motivates her.

Key Track: "Real Love"

Band With Similar Fire: Billy Bragg
