Death Cab For Cutie: Something About Airplanes [Deluxe Edition]

Death Cab For Cutie
Something About Airplanes [Deluxe Edition]
Barsuk Records [1998/1999; re: 2008]
(2 CD Set)

Fire Drills Review:
I remember picking this record up after hearing Death Cab on a CMJ magazine monthly CD. I was instantly on board with this at the time completely unknown act and label from the Northwest with its catchy soft indie harmonies and simplistic delivery, which became more infectious after each spin. This release marks the 10th anniversary of Something About Airplaines and includes a second disc that covers their first Seattle show and features the Smiths cover "Sweet And Tender Hooligan" with Sean Nelson of Harvey Danger. The live disc is nice but bringing attention back to Death Cab's early indie beginnings should change some "newer" listeners opinion of the band and some re-direction of where they should go now. It was well worth the re-visit!

Key Track: "President Of What?"
