Neil Young: Sugar Mountain - Live At Canterbury House 1968

Neil Young
Sugar Mountain: Live At Canterbury House 1968
Reprise Records [2008]

Fire Drills Review:
This release catches a very young Neil in Michigan days before his solo debut released. It is the first time that these shows have been released and they totally capture the essence of why Neil Young is an icon today. Musically it may not be the best sounding nor the best set because it was so early in his career but what is priceless is Young's chatter between tracks. He reportedly was very nervous that he did not have enough material but when he talks lighthearted about his 34' Bentley being in the shop and his songwriting process you instantly get a picture of his great showmanship and presence even early on. This all translates into a superb look at the beginning of a solo career that is still releasing relevant music today!

Key Track: "Sugar Mountain"

Band With Similar Fire: Jackson Browne
