Women: Women

Women
Women
Jagjaguwar Records [2008]

Fire Drills Review:
Women is an odd, interesting and spectacular group that offers a noisy yet artsy self-titled debut. The group members have toured as part of Sub Pop's Chad VanGaalen's band so it is no surprise that he also recorded Women while adding his own basement tweaks to the record. What is tough for the average indie listener is that Women offer both crazy noise filled tracks that distort, pip and pop while also having some very memorable choruses. For me it is this diversity that sets Women alone out on the fringe with only a handful of bands that have tried to successfully make this sound cohesive and listenable. Women totally pulls it off and are just one of those bands that you can't wait to see what they do next!

Key Track: "Black Rice"
