Fire Drills Review:
For any veteran band calling on producer Rick Rubin to help revive your roots always seems to be a good idea. After the debacle that was St. Anger [2003] that call was one of the most important because Death Magnetic finds Metallica more energized than ever before and successful in resurrecting the power from their 80's era catalog. Interestingly enough, even with most tracks surpassing the 7 minute mark they still have some of the catchy choruses that made the "Black" Album [1991] so successful, while absolutely assaulting and crunching you with Hammett's guitar fire. Turns out this is the Metallica we want - this is the Metallica that is important!
