The Pica Beats
Beating Back The Claws Of The Cold
Hardly Art Records [2008]
Fire Drills Review:
Not that it is any surprise but the pacific northwest seems to be just overflowing with solid indie bands that are releasing great records. You can now add Seattle's Pica Beats to the list and their jangly style of lo-fi rock that is Beating Back The Claws Of The Cold. This is a record that gets better with every spin because it offers something new with each rotation from the lyrical storytelling of the tracks, to the chamber pop of "Poor Old Ra" or the timeless appeal of "Cognac & Rum" that gives The Pica Beats a lasting charm well beyond 2008.
Key Track: "Cognac & Rum"
